Christmas 2002: December 21

Frankfurt Market Square

The big project for today was to buy our train tickets for the rest of the trip. The ticket lady was very helpful, and was able to get us a better deal than what we would have gotten if we bought them ahead of time. I've written some more details about the trains in Europe, including some information about the tickets. Fortunately we had printed out a sheet listing all of the trains that we planned on taking, as this made the process much easier.

We also decided at this point that the bags that we brought for clothes were too heavy to be lugging between train stations and hotels for two weeks, so we decided to buy a suitcase with wheels. The trip was much nicer after that.

For the rest of the day we walked around the Christmas markets and the museum strip. We didn't actually go in to any of the museums -- just saw them from the outside. This strip is right along a river, so it was a nice walk. For lunch we had pizza from one of the booths, and for dinner Sara had another steak sandwich while I had a frankfurter (I figured that was a good thing to have when in Frankfurt). It was probably about 3 feet long -- but they cut it in half and stick both halves in the same bun. It was good. We also tried roasted chestnuts (I've sung about "chestnuts roasting over an open fire" for years, but had never actually tried them -- now that I have tried them, I don't think I'll bother trying them again).
