Deanna Mackenzie at Birth
Deanna Mackenzie Arnold was born on Tuesday, June 7, 2005. She was due on June 6, and as we approached this date it became clear that she was going to be a rather big baby. So we ended up scheduling a c-section for Tuesday morning. She was born at 8:48 AM, weighed 9 pounds, 6.8 ounces (4275 g), and was 21.25 inches long (54 cm). So she turned out to be a few ounces lighter than Kajsa, but ¾ inch longer. Everything went pretty smoothly, and both Sara and Deanna are healthy and doing well.

This is Sara just before we left for the hospital (about 6:15 AM). |
| After a couple hours of waiting at the hospital, they took Sara in to the operating room. I got to follow a few minutes later. They had a sheet up, but when they were about to take Deanna out they told me I could stand up to watch and take pictures. So here you can see first Deanna's head and then the rest of her as they pulled her out. |

As they put Sara back together, I followed Deanna to the other side of the room as they checked her over. The doctor got the umbilical cord ready, but then gave me the scissors to cut it. (The picture is of the doctor -- not me.) |
| They also weighed Deanna -- 9 pounds, 6.8 ounces. |

After they finished the initial checks, I got to hold Deanna and bring her back over by Sara so she could see too. But of course Sara couldn't hold her until we got back out of the operating room. |
| I got to hold Deanna too, but all the pictures are of Sara. |

After Sara had recovered for a couple hours, we moved upstairs to a more permanent room. (We actually moved one more time after this, as they didn't have a private room available when we first moved upstairs.) Here is Deanna in her hospital bassinet. |
| Later that day, one of the nurses gave Deanna her first bath. |
